Indent marking is a traditional form of marking using hand stamps and presses. They can be used on most materials, with the exception of hardened metals.

Numbers, letters, and small logos can be marked by hand, and for larger logos and characters, a pneumatic or hydraulic press can be used.

Hand marking uses individual stamps, or a holder with several characters that are held by hand and struck by a hammer, indenting the surface of the product being marked.
