As you probably know by now, all companies are being requested to make "reasonable adjustments" to their premises under the changes being made to the Disability Discrimination Act 2004. Part of this includes clearer signage within premises for visually impaired people, eg clearly labelling hot water taps, exit and entrance signs, alarm locations, etc.
The RNIB has awarded an accreditation to the PT3600, 9500 & 9600 and endorsed the 36mm labels produced by all machines as suitable for visually impaired people. These labels are ideal for labeling applications at your premises to ensure you can be compliant with the requirements of the DDA Act. Click on this link to go the P-touch labelling page.
Several of the P-touch tapes have been recommended for either machine, due to the high contrast between the tape colour and character colour.
The tapes, which are recommended by the RNIB are:
- Black Characters on Yellow tape
- Black Characters on White tape
- Blue Characters on White tape
The recommended text formats are:
- Helsinki font (3600, 9500 & 9600)
- Arial font (9500only)
- The largest font possible:
- Auto size (3600, 9600)
- 72 point (9500)
- Standard or Bold format for distinct labels
- Standard width of the characters
- Standard spacing between the characters
- Invert function
